Letter to President Duterte

Dear Mr. President,

Hello Mr. President , I’m Jayson F. Rimay Grade 10 Student of Ilocos Sur National High School. It’s my pleasure to send you a letter to inform you and to express my thoughts about your administration.

It had been days since you and Senator Dick Gordon had been seen on national television exchanging accusations, blurting out shameful words with each other. Your government and the Department of Health had been accused of having conspiracy with the Pharmally in the procurement of medical COVID-19 supplies last year. Senator Gordon who is the Chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, probes on the COA report accuses the government of procuring overpriced medical supplies. As Secretary Francisco Duque III of the Department of Health as per your instruction continuously attends Senate probes and he is already addressing the deficiencies in the COA report which pertain to inventory matters in the supplies not on overpricing.

I do believe in your integrity as the President. But would you take into consideration the millions of Filipino people who looks up on you as the father of the nation; capable of addressing such problem with utmost tolerance and dignity? Could you not settle your issue with Senator Gordon in a dignified manner? Not in front of national television wherein even the most ignorant young mind becomes curious and gets polluted because of your daily exchange of badmouths. Settle your feud intellectually and you would be more admired for your professionalism and not acting like street goons.

Our country has been and still is fighting this COVID-19 virus. Too many Filipinos are suffering due to this pandemic. Our government’s economy and resources are fluctuating. Could you not, Mr. President look for ways and means to address these problems rather than quarreling on national tv with Senator Gordon? The Filipino people is hungry for the coming back of the old normal way of living. Everyone is eager to step out of their homes without masks, free to go back to their schools and jobs without fear of getting infected. Could you focus on the well-being of this country once and for all? Get rid of your bad attitude, clean your surroundings (get rid of those who are corrupt in your government) and be a leader of purpose and will to make your country rise from where it is right now.

Finally, Mr. President, the issue which started your feud with Sen. Gordon has already been probed. Let the Senate committee do its job. The truth will be out sooner and if that comes out, let justice be served to whoever might have done wrong. I look upon you with respect and so is my fellow countrymen. You are our president, and we believe you do your job, take full responsibility of this country and the well-being of all Filipinos. Do away with nonsense fights, focus on the real issue which plagues the whole country now. Combat the real war we are facing, not singling out a politician. You are the president, so please act like one as you have the highest position in this country.

Sincerely yours,

Jayson Rimay
